CLEAN UP OF SAO TOME, FONTAINHAS

We at Goa ForGiving participated in the cleaning up of Sao Tome in Fontainhas, the most beautiful Heritage zone in Goa. The clean up was led by Sergio Dias, owner of Zeebop restaurant in South Goa, along with Armando Gonsalves, Daegal Godinho, our Volunteers, Amalia Mora & Jeroen Gevers among others. A lot of people participated in the cleanup, including the residents of Sao Tome. The whole idea behind cleaning up the area was to save and preserve our beautiful Heritage sites. Read More

THE MERMAID GARDEN

Restoration of the Mermaid at the Mermaid Garden in Panjim is something I would have never thought would be part of Goa ForGiving’s & Heritage Jazz’s agenda, but when noted cinematographer Shirish Desai spoke to me about it about a month ago, it triggered a sense of urgency in all of us especially since another coat of ugly paint was set to smother her looks, considering she was set for “repainting” due to the then soon to be held IFFI 2012. CAMPAL CREEK INITIATIVE

There are probably just a few individuals who may be aware that in the heart of the city of Panaji there is a water canal connecting Campal & St. Inez.  The Campal Creek also known as St. Inez nullah opens up opposite Inox, squeezes in behind the heritage structures in Campal, flows besides Taj Vivanta, rests at St. Inez in the form of stagnant polluted water. To say the least it’s in a very sorry state. It is delightful to work with children whom we love so much. And the kids just love what we do for them in music and art. It is amazing how this beautiful project brings children from the St Inez nullah area into the mainstream, and how wonderfully well they are quickly adapting to learning Konkani singing, local dances, painting etc in the company of passionate musicians/teachersRead More

JAZZ NIRVANA

The open air auditorium was a buzz with the wonderful sounds of a number of musical maestros. It began with a scintillating solo by Amit Heri as he enchanted with his guitar. A musician worth every string he has strummed, followed by Ranjit Barot, the son of Padmashree Sitara Devi, a drumming sensation who has played at several international music festivalsKarl Peters then joined this amazing duo, lending his guitar prowess to the drama unfolding on stage. Ravi Chari joined in finally, providing a divine musical climax to this step by step performance, also adding a glorious Indian touch to it, with his sitar.  JAZZ FOR PEACE

The Jazz for Peace show held in the streets near Gonsalves Mansion was an event that struck the heart, as an event of emotion, love, peace, togetherness and unity. Harri Stojka, considered to be the world's best Gypsy jazz guitarist, started the event with popular numbers from the Gypsy almanac, and then graduated into music that was composed by him and his teammates. harri was simply amazing on the guitar, with his deft playing drawing 'oohs' and 'aahs' from the crowd that was already ready to savour music of the highest quality. Gypsy jazz is upbeat, exciting and high energy and Harri and his band members were simply fantastic. Read More

Having enjoyed working with children, we also thought that it is important to work with people from the silver generation, and this made us visit the famed old aged home in Divar, La Santa Margarida. And it was just amazing to see how these people who have served us so well, enjoyed each and every bit of their time with all of us from Heritage Jazz as well as with the same privileged children that are part and parcel of most of our charity initiatives. The birthday of Aduzinda Gonsalves, 81 year old mother of our CEO Armando Gonsalves has given us the impetus to do more, and do look out for lots more in this regard. We look forward to your comments and suggestions as to how we can do more to this beautiful section of our society.Read More...

The by product of the art workshop held by noted artists Unnati Singh and Salvador Fernandes was really cool paintings done by these privileged children, and we put them up in an exhibition that drew applause from all. Some paintings have also been picked up by supporters to the cause and the proceeds from the sale go back to funding the cause that is so dear to our hearts i.e. providing education to these beautiful childrenRead More...

Our CEO Armando Gonsalves is the recipient of the All India Karmaveer Puraskar Award for promotion of peace and harmony. When at the awards ceremony in November 2009, he met up with another Karmaveer awardee, Partho Bhowmick who won the award for doing yeoman service to the blind. It is then when our interest in working for the blind was further fuelled after it remained dormant for around 3 years after we raised funds for the National Association for the Blind via our Liberate your Jazz event held in December 2006.Read More

The 16th of January is the Feast of Blessed Joseph Vaz, and this year being the 300th Anniversary of the revered priest, there was enough reason for doing something different and exciting. The Easter celebration was in full force at Holy Spirit Church, Margao. The first mega Worship Concert Liberate your Spirit (2nd edition) drew a large crowd of all faiths across Goa. ‘Faith’ the Margao based band opened the concert and treated more than 2000 strong crowd with fast paced and interactive music, setting the precedent for the other artists. 20 years old Alacoque Morenas the sweet voiced Margao girl struck a chord with the youth with her acoustic faith songs. Varun Carvalho set focused on ‘praise and freedom’ and some of his songs praised for our motherland and the Christ. The theme of the concert struck a chord with him, as the title of his album is ‘Set Me Free’ and he feels that in order to effectively liberate your Spirit you must first set yourself free. The Green Connection

Campal was painted shades of green this Independence Day on the 15th of August, 2013 with it’s Green Connection. Children from Hamara school, an orphanage situated in St. Inez, participated in an Art workshop organised by The Goa ForGiving Trust along with noted artists Salvador Fernandes and Lata Pant. salvador is an ardent believer of objects of spirituality and portrays the fusion of thought, expression, human form and the supreme source with strong underlying inspiration. Having dedicated his last 15 years to art, he has created a niche of his own work. He has participated in many group and solo exhibitions of his work across Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata, Hyderabad and many more places. Lata Pant is a self taught artist who is focused, dedicated and passionate about art and its world. In her works she depicts a human spirit which is irrepressible and soars high being driven by passion. Both the artists guided the children through the workshop on usage of the color green, which was the highlight of the day. The children were all abuzz which brought to life the Gonsalves Mansion, Home of Jazz, where the workshop was held. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves which could be seen and felt from the smiles on their faces. Read More...
