HONOR HEFFERNAN
22nd & 23rd November 2008

Honor Heffernan has been performing as both a singer and actress for over 30 years now. She has been both critically and publicly acclaimed as a singer who's versatility and superior vocal ability means she is comfortable singing anything from Jazz and Blues to Rock and Folk.

Honor's career began in the early 70's as Ireland 's first female rock singer, when she joined “The Watchtower”, a very successful rock band, led by Alan Dee. Following a European tour, she went on to work with many of Ireland 's top Blues, Rock and Folk musicians.

Honor Heffernans position as one of our leading jazz interpreters has tended to overshadow her abilities as a rock singer, but her work on the album 'The other side' serves as a lesson to those who think that singing a song is merely down to getting the notes and the words right.

SASKIA LAROO
8th & 9th December 2008

To hear her, see her, and watch her command the stage is to be seized by the sultry glamour of this musical goddess, known by many as “Lady Miles Davis”. Dutch trumpetress Saskia Laroo, like Miles, has taken on a mission as original and bold as it is resplendent: “…combining various music styles and cultures in a way as if they always meant to be together…”(J. Lyon Layden – “Creative Loafing 2001). Saskia accomplishes this with 21 st century finesse, merging an ocean of today ‘s sounds, with a deep regard for musical traditions, and a flair for the chic… and she can really play.

In her own words: “I like when people have a good time and [dance] while I play. I don ‘t want to play just for other [musicians].” Saskia ‘s concept is borne of years playing, experimenting, grooving, and winning a world of listeners. This all comes together with her Saskia Laroo Band, a multi-national unit pulsating with contemporary sounds and the power of the ages rife with groovy rhythms, exciting solos, and kickin’ rap vocals.

Confident dwelving into many styles – Jazz (Cool, bebop, free, etc.) to pop (blues, rock, hip-hop, soul, R+B, Funk etc.) and from Dance (drum+bass, techno, electro, lounge, etc.) to World (salsa, reggae, Caribbean, African, etc.) – “This Jazz Goddess is a real ambassador of cross-over and new jazz”(India Blue “The Hartford Advcate: Dutch Girls on trumpet” March, 2001)

Throughout her career, world traveller Saskia Laroo has performed in all of six continents. A short list of countries would include: Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Russia, Japan, South Korea, USA, Colombia, China, India, Indonesia and many more. She has also performed with many Greats – (Hans Dulfer, Teddy Edwards, Roy Hargrove, George Coleman, Slide Hampton, Warren Byrd, Hugh Masekela, Bongi Makeba, Billy Higgins, Wynton Marsalis, David Murray, Jean Toots Thielemans, Yellow Jackets, Michiel Borstlap; George Benson, Candy Dulfer, Foley, Rosa King, Ingram Washington, Akio Sasajima, Gene Jackson, Marcus Miller, Maceo Parker, Courtney Pine , Eveline Carels, Blixx, Trijntje Oosterhuis; Ronald Molendijk, Maestro, Franky D, Ken Ishi, Dimitri etc.).
